It's been over two year since I've last blogged. Not sure if it's a good excuse or not, but work has been nuts! Ever since moving to Atlanta, I have not had time to post anything. Loving every minute of what I do. I've been really fortunate as this move was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
In my last post I mentioned that Nana, the flower of my life and the person who inspired me to cook, was waking up from her coma after a raptured brain aneurysm almost took her life. Well today, she is walking, talking and almost back to normal! For over a year, I would call her every few days, they would put the phone next to her ear and I would do all the talking. She was barely able to mumble a few things and at times, nothing. Now however, she doesn't stop talking! I know not to call her on the way to work anymore because she always make me late.
A lot has happened in Syria. It's been five years since I've seen my family back home. The war is still raging over there and I can't go to visit without endangering my life. There are still snipers on the roads, ambushes and even sporadic air raids. As much as I want to, it would just be crazy for me to visit right now. I've been Skyping with my family so it makes things a little easier.
In other news, I bought a home a little over a hear ago in a cute Atlanta neighborhood only walking distance from good food and fun outdoor activities. I'm slowly transforming my place into the perfect sanctuary that I've always dreamt of – a temporary one as I would like to move again in a few years.
Now that we're caught up, I would like to share new Levantine recipes with all of you over the coming weeks and months. Now that I'm working 50+ hours a week and traveling on weekends, I've had to adapt and change the way I've cooked in the past. I simply don't have time anymore to sit down and stuff zucchini all day. I'm going to start posting quick and delicious recipes that fit our busy lifestyles. Let's play it by ear!
